Jonathan Hunter: The First Gate

Meine allerliebsten Buchblogger, ich adressiere das Wort an euch! *lacht*

Heute mal eine Short Story auf Englisch, das ist doch mal was anderes. Denn normalerweise lese ich keine Geschichten auf Englisch, sondern lese nur auf Deutsch. Aber ich konnte nicht anders als dem Autor zuzusagen, seine Short Story zu lesen. Denn dieser Autor ist wirklich super lustig und als er mir erzählt hat, dass seine Geschichten vom Genre her Fantasy (und Horror) sind, konnte ich nicht anders als zuzusagen. Für die Short Story hat es sich eindeutig gelohnt! 

(Ob ich dann sein 600 seitiges Buch auch lese, ist eine andere Sache *lacht*) 

PS: Weil das Buch auf Englisch ist und der Autor auch englischsprachig ist, werde ich dieses Mal eine Rezension auf Deutsch und Englisch machen! 

Gesichtet: The First Gate - Eine Geschichte voller Schrecken!

Worum gehts?

Die Beförderung eines jungen Ritters wird zu einem lebenden Alptraum, als er zum berüchtigten Ersten Tor geschickt wird. Tief unter der Welt von Aeden wird er mit Schrecken konfrontiert, die älter sind als die Welt, die er hinter sich gelassen hat.

Meine Meinung 

Ich habe mich ganz ehrlich gefragt, weshalb ich vom Autor auf Instagram angeschrieben wurde. Immerhin sieht man eigentlich an meinem Profil, dass ich keine Englischen Bücher lese, sondern nur Bücher in deutscher Sprache. Dann ist mir einiges klar geworden: Er schreibt Fantasy-Geschichten, also genau mein Genre! Er fragte mich, ob ich Lust hätte sein Buch über 600 (!) Seiten zu lesen und als ich ihm, sagte, dass mein Englisch nicht so gut wäre, bot er mir charmant an zuerst seine Short Story zu lesen. Und Gott sei dank habe ich ihm zugesagt. 

Denn diese Short Story ist ja mal geil. Mega creepy, aber verdammt gut geschrieben! Eine gute Mischung zwischen Horror und Fantasy.

Bei dieser Short Story wird man mitten in die Geschichte reingeworfen. Trotzdem habe ich mich sofort in diese andere Welt versetzt gefühlt, denn die Beschreibungen des Autors sind einfach wundervoll. Eigentlich sehr einfach und schlicht und dennoch so ausführlich, dass man sich sofort nach Aeden versetzt fühlt. Es ist so richtig fantasy-mässig und mittelalterlich beschrieben; es gibt Monster, Magie, Ritter, Könige und Barden. Ich hatte so ein richtiges Herr der Ringe Feeling dabei. Also Hut ab für diesen tollen Schreibstil!

Man fühlt sich auch sofort in die Lage des Hauptprotagonisten Luka hineinversetzen. Er wollte eine ehrenwerte Aufgabe als Ritter haben und wird dann zum "Ersten Tor" geschickt. Dieser Ort scheint ein ziemlich gefürchteter Ort zu sein und das wird im Verlauf der Geschichte immer klarer. Man mag den Hauptprotagonisten von der ersten Seite an und seine Familie scheint auch total warmherzig zu sein. Zum Teil kam mir dieser Ritter ein bisschen "schwach" vor, aufgrund seiner Reaktionen - wie z.B. sofort zu kotzen oder wiel ihm sofort schlecht wird usw. Aber als ich dann die Beschreibungen der Horrorszenarien gelesen habe, konnte ich seine Reaktionen und Handlungen gut verstehen. 

Wie gesagt, diese Short Story bewegt sich im Fantasy und Horror Bereich und ist eindeutig nichts für schwache Nerven. Denn diese Beschreibung der Horror-Kreaturen, die im "Ersten Tor" hausen, sind einfach gruselig. Die Beschreibungen sind wirklich gut und (leider) kann man sich alles sehr gut vorstellen. Kein Wunder, dass sich kein einziger Mensch zum "Ersten Tor" wagt. 

Ich habe auch zu den Nebencharakteren wie z.B. Katja eine Verbindung aufgebaut und mochte, dass alle Charaktere eine gewisse Struktur haben. Sie alle sind starke Nebencharaktere, ich war wirklich daran interessiert, was mit ihnen passieren würde. 

Ganz ehrlich, ich hatte keine Ahnung, wo mich diese Story hinführen würde. Es gibt viiiiiiele Plot Twists und am Ende war ich so: whaaaaaat? Ich hatte ein Happy End erwartet, doch das war es eindeutig nicht. Wobei ich mir immer noch nicht sicher bin, was am Ende wirklich geschehen ist, denn diese Geschichte hat ein ziemlich offenes Ende. 

Ich fand diese Short Story super; es ist etwas Neues, Originelles und voller Spannung! Es ist eine super Story, die man nebenbei lesen kann. Auch der Schreibstil und die Wortwahl waren angenehm. Ich musste nie etwas nachschlagen, das Englisch war also wirklich ein einfaches Englisch. 

Auf jeden Fall werde ich mir auch das Buch "The Tournament Of The Lost" des Autors mal ansehen und vielleicht auch lesen. Denn mit dieser Short Story hat er mir eindeutig Lust auf mehr gemacht. Von daher hier noch einmal: Danke an Jonathan, der mir ermöglicht hat seine Short Story zu lesen!
Und vor allem: Er hätte eindeutig mehr Aufmerksamkeit verdient!

Today is a special day, because it's the first time I gonna write a review of a book in english. I thought it would be nice for the author to do it in english too because he will understand my review more than just the german one. And if I would only write a review in german: that wouldn't be fair in my opinion. So here we go!

As you probably already guessed: Normally I'm not reading books in english because my mother tongue is german. But the author - Jonathan Hunter - was so kind and funny I couldn't say no. And when he told me that he's writing fantasy stories he convinced me to try it. I have to say: Thank god I said yes, because that short story was sooooo good! Damn! 

But if I'm reading the 600 pages book is another story! *smiles* 

PS: I hope my english isn't that bad and if it is: I apologize now! 

Spotted: The First Gate - A story with much horror! 

Content: What is it all about? 

A young knights promotion is turned into a living nightmare when he is sent to the infamous First Gate. Posted deep beneath the world of Aeden he will face horrors older than world he has left behind.

My opinion 

First: I really asked myself why the author reached out to me for reading his stories in english. Because obviously my profile on instagram is only german. Then i began to understand: He is a fantasy author and fantasy is my favourite genre. Or maybe it was just my personality that made me interesting. *laughs* So Jonathan asked me if I wanted to read his book that has 600 (!) pages. And I was like: Dude, my english is not that good! So he convinced me to try it with his short story "The First Gate" to see, if I could read it. And thank god I said yes! 

Because this short story is damn good! It's pretty creepy though, but his writting skills are extremly good! This story is an excellent mix between horror and fantasy and I loved it! 

At the beginning the author is throwing us in the story. But the description of this fantasy world is really nice. The description are simple but at the same time they are really detailed; I really enjoyed it and had the feeling to be in Aeden. This story is typical for the fantasy genre: it has magic, mystical creatures, kings and knights and so much more. To be honest: I felt like I was in a Lord of the Rings movie. I can only say: Wow man, that's incredible!

I really liked the protagonist Luka. He is a man with honor and he just wanted to serve the king but he was sent to "The First Gate" -  a place everyone seems to fear. And through the story I began to understand why. I really liked Luka since the first page and also his family. But I have to admit that sometimes I thought that Luka is a little pussy because of his reactions when he enters the tunnel to "The First Gate" or when he's seeing those really disgusting "things". And then I was reading the descriptions of those "things" - or I would rather say "monsters" - and I began to change my mind and I understood why Luka acted like that. 

As I already mentioned this story is a mix between fantasy and horror and it's really nothing for weak nerves. The description of the creatures are really scary and freaky. (Thank god I didn't read this story in the night) I liked how the monsters were described and you could really imagine them in your head (and that was also fuck**ng scary). I'm not surprised at all that no one wants to go to "The First Gate". 

I also enjoyed the side characters like Katja. All the characters have a structure and it's easy to connect with them. Even if they were side characters I wanted to know what would happen to them next. 

If I am honest: I had no idea where this story would go. I thought maybe it would be a Happy End. But at the end of the story I just sat there and stared at my phone like: whaaaaat? Even though it's more like an open ending. I still enjoyed it! 

This short story is daaaaamn good, I know I'm repeating myself but it's just the truth! It's something new, original and it's really an exciting story. The writing is wonderful and the chosen english is easy - even for me! 

Maybe I also gonna read his book "The Tournament Of The Lost" even if it has 600 pages (it's still in english and it's gonna take weeks for me to read it. Maybe months! *laughs*). Because with this short story he really caught my attention. I'm saying it again: Thank you Jonathan, for giving me the oportunity to read your story! 
And at the end one more thing: Jonathan is such an underrated author, so give him and his stories a chance, because it's worth it!
